About This Sleepy Sloth Amigurumi
A drowsy little sloth with long huggable arms and a permanently content smile.
This sleepy sloth is worked in continuous spirals from the head down, with long arms that wrap around for the perfect hug. The dozy half-closed eyes give it all its charm.
Construction is modular and beginner-friendly once you're at home with increases and decreases.
Why You'll Love This Sleepy Sloth Amigurumi
I absolutely love this sloth because the long arms make it endlessly huggable, and the sleepy expression turns out a little different and a lot of personality every single time.
Switch Things Up
Try a soft grey or dusty mauve for a more realistic sloth, or go pastel for a nursery-friendly version.
Make the arms a few rounds longer if you'd like them to fully clasp around a crib rail.
Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them
Skipping stitch markers at the start of each round lets the spiral drift; place a marker and move it up every round.Stuffing the arms too firmly makes them stick out; keep them softly filled so they drape and hug.Pulling the face embroidery too tight puckers the head; work it loosely and even out the tension before securing.Forgetting to count after increases gives an uneven head; count at the end of every shaping round.
Maker's Notes
When I made this I used a soft worsted acrylic and it came together over two evenings. The arms are the fiddly bit — keep them loosely stuffed so they hug, and pin everything before sewing.
I tried a substitution: I also tried it in DK on a 3 mm hook and got a 17 cm sloth instead of 22 cm — just as cute and a little quicker.

Assembly Instructions
Sew the head to the body, stuffing the neck firmly as you close the seam.
Pin the arms to the upper body between rounds 4 and 6, angling them forward, then sew securely.
Attach the legs to the lower body, spacing them evenly for a balanced sit.
Embroider the sleepy eyes and nose using the photos as a placement guide.
Important Notes
Work in continuous spirals unless a round says to join.
Stuff firmly as you go for a smooth finish.
Use a stitch marker to track the start of each round.
Weave in your ends, give those arms a gentle shape, and your sleepy sloth is ready for naptime cuddles!
Good to know
You ask, we answer
Worked in worsted yarn on a 3.5 mm hook it stands about 22 cm / 9 in tall, with arms roughly 12 cm long.
For babies under three, skip the safety eyes and embroider the eyes with yarn instead for a fully soft, safe toy.
A worsted (#4) yarn gives the cuddly size shown. A DK yarn and 3 mm hook will make a daintier sloth.
Just a basic whip stitch. Pin each piece first and use the photos to check placement before sewing.
